About the artist
Grayson Perry CBE RA (born 1960) is a British contemporary artist, writer and broadcaster. Winner of the Turner prize in 2003, he works in a variety of media including ceramics and tapestries, often with an autobiographical element. Parallels between Perry and William Hogarth are sometimes drawn – both explore themes of morality and social class, capturing the spirit of the age through humour and storytelling. He often appears as his alter ego, Claire, in elaborate outfits, some of which are the result of an annual competition held by Central Saint Martins for fashion students to design dresses for Claire.
